Feeling Warm and Fuzzy in January

12/31/2025

In thinking about the new year, new goals, exciting prospects and feeling proud, there's a warm and fuzzy memory I've been reflecting on recently. It took place in January 2019. I had been working at Atlas for a couple years and was doing Energy Audits at the time, and was meeting with a young family who had just purchased their starter home in Silver Spring, MD. They were a lovely husband and wife, around my age, with two young kids.

At some point during the appointment, while I was busy measuring the house and getting ready to go in the attic, the wife got news of a job offer that she had been waiting to hear about. They were so happy about it and what I remember specifically was that her husband seemed so incredibly proud of her. I just happened to be there for the Audit, so I don't expect that they would remember me lurking in the background, but their celebration really made an impression on me, and I think of it every now and then. Of course I felt a little like I was intruding on this private moment, but at the same time it really felt like a privilege to witness their excitement. It's moments like this that make it especially rewarding for us to work in peoples' homes.

Memory aside, one of the coolest things is that these homeowners have been working with us since January 2019. First at their starter home where I did the Audit in 2019, and again in 2023/2024, when they moved to a slightly larger home for their growing family! We’ve helped them in various ways make their houses more comfy and efficient for almost 7 years now, and they recently reached out again to make more improvements and get more guidance from their Energy Auditor Greg.

It’s always heartwarming to have recurring customers like this, and as I said to these customers directly a few days ago, thank you for trusting us with your home(s) over the years! It’s a privilege!
