Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a QHEC inspection and a full energy audit?
A QHEC is a quick check-up that identifies common issues and provides help to save energy. A full audit is more detailed, with advanced diagnostics, customized solutions, and helps to qualify you for rebates from the utility.
Can I do just an insulation or HVAC estimate instead of an Energy Audit?
Yes, we can definitely provide you with a free insulation or HVAC estimate if you’d prefer. Please keep in mind that you could be missing out on thousands of dollars in Rebates from your electric company, though.
What is a Test Out?
A Test Out is a 45 minute - 1.5 hour long appointment that takes place after we’ve completed your contracting work, if you are receiving a Rebate from your Utility company. It’s a chance for us to re-run some of the same tests we did during your Energy Audit, now that we’ve made energy saving improvements to it. If there’s a Utility Rebate associated with your improvement work, we do all of the back and forth with the utility companies so you don’t have to.
How do I know if I’m getting a Rebate?
Your Energy Auditor will cover this information with you in detail when they put together your Energy Audit Report, Proposal, and Rebate info. Rest assured, we take care of all the logistics to improve your home, as well as all of the rebate paperwork with the utility companies. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to upgrade your home, and start living more comfortably and efficiently!

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a QHEC and a Comprehensive Home Energy Audit?
Quick Home Energy Check-ups is a short appointment (about 30-40 minutes) that focuses on educating the homeowner on ways to lower their utility bills, as well as the installation of many cost-saving measures such as LED lights, water saving shower heads, and power strips. A Home Energy Audit is a more in-depth evaluation of your home’s thermal envelope, and includes a Blower Door Test, Combustion Safety testing, and visual inspections of all aspects of your home. A QHEC is fully paid for by the EmPower Maryland Program, whereas an Energy Audit is 75% subsidized ($400 value, but the homeowner will only pay $100)
