It took place in January 2019. I had been working at Atlas for a couple years and was doing Energy Audits at the time, and was meeting with a young family who had just purchased their starter home in Silver Spring, MD. They were so happy about it and what I remember specifically was that her husband seemed so incredibly proud of her. I just happened to be there for the Audit, so I don't expect that they would remember me lurking in the background, but their celebration really made an impression on me, and I think of it every now and then. Of course I felt a little like I was intruding on this private moment, but at the same time it really felt like a privilege to witness their excitement. First at their starter home where I did the Audit in 2019, and again in 2023/2024, when they moved to a slightly larger home for their growing family!
